Russian WW2 Guards Badge

Guard units existed in the tsarist army before the revolution.

In March 1917, the Red Guard was established – armed I hurt the Bolsheviks – which after the October Revolution was transformed by Lenin into the Workers ‘and Peasants’ Red Army.

On October 18, 1941, Stalin gave an order to rename the military units that had distinguished themselves in the fighting as guard units.

On May 21, 1942, by order no. 167, the "Guard" badge was introduced, which could be used to distinguish individual soldiers and entire military units.

The "Guard" badges from the Second World War have a slightly rounded shape. The dimensions vary depending on the manufacturer and do not have the fringes (introduced since 1950).
