Identification Plate Daimler Benz A.G. Sindelfingen

The Sindelfingen plant was founded in 1915 by Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft. In the early days mainly airplanes and aircraft engines were used. such as the Mercedes D III, which is why the plant had a runway at the time. Finally, in 1919, the first passenger car was manufactured.

After the merger of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft with Benz & Cie. in 1926 the entire body shop of the new Daimler-Benz group was relocated to the Sindelfingen plant.

A year later, the vehicles were assembled for the first time using assembly line production, which was introduced by Wilhelm Friedle, the works director at the Sindelfingen plant at the time.

In 1929 the first press shop was installed in the factory. In the years that followed, the term Sindelfingen bodywork became synonymous with quality.

Over time, as sales increased, more workers were needed. In 1938 the plant employed around 6,500 people.

During the Second World War, Daimler-Benz became one of the largest producers of armaments.
