Description
A set of HJ Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) Badges.
1) 1936 Youth Festival badge (Jugendfest Abzeichen).
A stamped alloy badge with a brown wash. The badge takes the form of a stylized eagle upon whose breast is the HJ diamond and swastika, with "Deutsches" scrolled above and "Jugendfest 1936" below. To the unmarked reverse is a horizontal pin-back device.
2,3) 1936 /1937 HJ Youth Festival Sports Event Badges. (H.J. Reichsportwettkampf Abzeichen).
Sports in the early period of the Third Reich had an underlying, subversive role as a form of military training, due to the restrictions imposed on the Germans by the Treaty of Versailles. As a result, sporting events were very highly regarded by the N.S.D.A.P. and all manner of awards were issued on a national and local level to the victorious athletes. Even after the treaty was ignored, and military conscription imposed, sporting events for the German youth were still held in high esteem as pre-military training and toughening-up exercises.
From the end of 1934 Hitler Youth Sports Festivals were held throughout Germany. Originally called a "Sport-" or "Jugendfest, " after 1937 they came to be known as "Reichsportwettkampf" (National-sport-competition).
Solid cast aluminum badge, roughly in the form of a vertical oval, comprised of the Hitler Youth diamond with a mobile swastika to its center, surmounted by an eagle, with a spray of oak leaves to either side and "1936" and "1937"scrolled beneath. Complete with original pin.
One is designated by the manufacturer: HILLENBRAND & BRÖER LÜDENSCHEID.
4.) HJ Jugendfest Sports Award Pin 1940. (HJ Reichsportwettkampf Abzeichen).
A badge awarded to a Hitler Youth who had achieved an above average score in three sports contests. These badges rated higher than the "day" pinscould be worn throughout the year.
A grey protoplastic badge in the form of the Hitler Youth diamond and swastika with a spray of oak leaves rising to either side of it from a scroll with "1940" stamped to it.
Complete with original pin.
