Tunic Uniform of 2nd Hanover Dragoon Regiment No. 16

2nd Hannoversche Dragoon Regiment No. 16 was a cavalry unit of the Prussian Army.

The regiment’s main troops are a hussar regiment set up on September 24, 1813 by Lieutenant Colonel Albrecht von Estorff in Lüneburg, which was counted as an English unit. It was called the "Estorff’sches" or "Lüneburg Hussar Regiment".

This association fought in the Wars of Liberation and was taken over into the service of the Kingdom of Hanover on 25 January 1814. On March 9, 1815 it was named "Hussar Regiment of the Prince Regent" and referred to the future King George IV.

In 1818 the cities of Lüneburg, Uelzen, Lüchow and Harburg were assigned to the association as garrisons.

In 1820 it was named "Hussar Regiment of the Crown Prince". It was later converted and in the last few years of its existence it bore the name "Crown Prince Dragoon Regiment" within the Hanoverian Army.

After the defeat of the Kingdom of Hanover in the German War of 1866, parts of the regiment were taken over into Prussian service and established with the highest cabinet order by King Wilhelm I on October 30, 1866 (Foundation Day) as Dragoon Regiment No. 16.

For this purpose, the cuirassier regiments No. 4 and 8 and the Dragoon regiments No. 5 and 7 each gave up their 5th squadron.

On November 7th, 1867, the regiment was named 2nd Hannoversches Dragoon Regiment No. 16 and was initially housed in Northeim and Einbeck before it was relocated to Lüneburg in July 1871.

The 4th squadron moved into garrison in Uelzen.

Regimental colors were lemon yellow, collar and cuffs piped white, buttons silver (two buttons missing).

The badge of the NCOs is on the right upper arm.
